  • Net:gain: ICT strategy training for Chief Officers, Managers and Trustees.
  • Website - in - a - Day: Organisational Development and ICT training to create a website using WordPress.
  • Our Managing Director, Colin Harrison is also the Regional ICT Champion for the sector with Yorkshire & the Humber.

The Person

We are looking for a special person. You will need to have well-developed web skills, know your way around the voluntary sector and understand the complex needs of its organisations. You will also need to be able to see your way through these complex needs so that you can analyze the problems, devise solutions and set up a project. You will then develop a solution through a combination of developing code and sourcing the gaps. Later on we will expect you to establish a department which will take on people with a disability or other severe disadvantage and design jobs for them. Support for self development of skills will be provided through the varied experience of current staff.

It is a challenging role which offers a considerable amount of freedom which will suit those who wish to “make a difference”.

THE ROLE

As the Director of Finance, you will lead and manage the finance team and be a member of the Senior Management Team. You will work closely with the CEO, SMT and Board in setting overall strategies and act as the principle advisor on all finance issues.

Taking charge of the financial management of Fairbridge you will report to the SMT and Board on budgetary variances and forecasts, maximise the cash balances through Treasury management, supervise the preparation of statutory accounts and ensure robust Finance and IT processes are in place. You will also contribute to the development of a commercial contracting strategy and to the commercial development of Fairbridge’s subsidiary for-profit companies.

As well as providing effective leadership and management to the finance and IT departments, you will negotiate the most cost effective contracts building strong relationships with internal and external contacts.

THE PERSON

To succeed, you will be a qualified accountant with post qualification experience driving and developing finance teams, highly motivated with exceptional interpersonal skills. You will have a proven track record of delivering a first class accounting service, including reviewing and assessing financial resources necessary to implement and deliver major programmes and projects.

Multi-Stakeholder Consultations

  • Manage an online working environment for international consultations on Codes of Good Practice, building on a wiki-based tool.

  • Implement an overhaul of the ISEAL website to ensure compatibility with contemporary external online features and with ISEAL Communications Strategy.

VSO is looking for a number of IT Specialists to improve IT infrastructure and skills across several educational institutions in Ethiopia.  Adwa College is one of those institutions, seeking an IT adviser to establish an effective network and train staff in basic IT skills and software packages.  You’ll also ensure that some of your colleagues become self-sufficient in network development and hardware maintenance before the end of your placement.

The role involved general computer maintenance at the college, networking existing computers and providing training to the college community is basic IT skills.

You’ll need a degree level qualification and have experience of working in IT with database management, software and hardware development and management.  This will include experience of network administration in a Windows server environment.  The ability to train others in Microsoft Office programs and other basic IT skills is essential as are great team working and communication skills.

This is just one example of volunteer placements for experienced IT professionals that VSO urgently needs to fill. Placements last for 12 to 24 months and come with return flights, accommodation and a local living allowance.
