Who is AFFORD?

AFFORD was founded as a UK registered charity in 1994 by a group of Africans in the UK, in response to concerns, that despite the vast number of Africans in the UK who organize themselves and contribute to Africa's development, Africans were effectively marginalized from mainstream development activity directed towards Africa. There was also a realisation that different Africans can and should learn from each other.

How does AFFORD use ICT?

AFFORD has a short project with Channel 4 on blogging. The idea is to get partners from Africa and UK to have a dialogue on development online so that others could learn about challenges Africans face in their lives every day.  None of the partners had ever blogged before or knew how to go about it.

What difference has ICT made?

Fatuma Abdulahi said, "I learnt about blogging at the Media Trust seminar and was able to post my blogs and help the other partners through the basic blogging process.  It has made it easier to progress with the project, which is important as it is the first time AFFORD is trying to reach a wider audience about real African development issues facing individuals."
