Who are Education Action?

Education Action trains refugees in the UK in vocational skills and human rights advocacy. The organisation wanted to build a new website that was tailored to their target audience, teachers in the UK who support their work and the refugees they are training.

How does Education Action use ICT?

Pippa Ranger attended New media made cheap and easy seminar in London and was taught about new media.  The skills that are taught are the theory of Live web and practical live web tools such as podcasts, wikis and blogs.

As a result of the seminar, the organisation has begun work on two blogs – one for teachers in the UK to talk with teachers they have visited and worked within Lebanon, which means they can keep in touch and keep up the pressure for a ceasefire. The second blog is for trained refugees who are human rights activists, which means they can share ideas and skills on campaigning and lobbying.

What difference has ICT made?

Pippa Ranger said, “The new media developments will revolutionise the way we communicate and improve our networks with our key audiences. The whole concept of blogs is integral to our ethos as an organisation, which is very much bottom up, working with local partners and enabling people to reach their full potential. We’re really grateful to the Media Trust.”
